Research on Matching Performance between Gas Discharge Tube and Metal Oxide Varistor under Glow and Arc Discharging Test
Concerning problems of the matching performance between multi-electrodes gas discharge tube and metal oxide varistor, different variation can be inferred when the multi-electrodes gas discharge tube is in parallel with the different parameters MOV, according to the operational principle of them, the glow voltage、arc voltage、glow current、arc current、 glow time and arc time of the gas tube can be effectively reduced during the stage of arc glow discharge under glow and arc discharging test. Based on the Townsend theory, the equivalent discharge model of gas tube during the stage of glow and arc discharge was founded. Further study the variation of different parameters under the glow and arc discharging test, the accuracy of the model was verified; during the experiment, it was also found when MOV was in parallel with the negative electrode of gas tube during the impulse, the low and arc transition time of GDT was decreased and the response time of the multi-gap was markedly shortened. According to the phenomenon and theoretical analysis, a new method of parallel connection between multi-electrodes gas discharge tube and metal oxide varistor was proposed, which has a certain reference value in the practical application.
