Frequency adjustment of grid-connected direct drive permanent magnet wind power genera-tion based on VSG
Abstract:Direct drive permanent magnet synchronous wind turbines are connected to the grid through back-to-back converters, which will cause the power system frequency to be decoupled from the generator power, resulting in a problem that the inverters does not have an inertia response when the system frequency changes. In response to this problem, the paper introduces the virtual synchronous generator (VSG) control strategy into the control of the inverter, and takes advantage of the virtual inertia to support the change of the system frequency. Simultaneously, the method combines VSG with the generator and the converters, in which process the vector control strategy of the rotor flux linkage is used in generator-side converter to keep the DC bus voltage constant, the change of which reflects the change in system frequency. And then, the generator output is linked to the system frequency changes. Finally, a simulation model of a single synchronous generator is built in MATLAB/simulink, and the simulation results verify the effectiveness of this control strategy for system frequency adjustment.
