Abstract: High penetration PVs tend to bring overvoltage to distribution network, and many proposed methods are therotical and usually need much state information of distribution network (such as: load flow data), which makes it difficult to be applied. This paper proposes a practical voltage regulation technique for medium voltage distribution network: select several critical nodes and achieve regulation of voltage along the feeder through regulation of critical nodes’ voltage, thereby simplifying voltage regulation. “natural voltage” concept is proposed, power loss minimization is then converted in to an objective based on “natural voltage”, and the relathionship between node voltage and the reactive power of distributed PVs is eastablished using constant sensitivity, which makes culculation of objective function very easy and converts constraints into linear ones with power flow requations excluded, thereby reducing greatly the information needed in optimization. The method proposed by this paper can get sub-optimal solution and is very practical, and the simulation result confirms the effectiveness of the proposed method.
