In this paper, cascading effect has been simulated on the IEEE 300 bus system. Load loss and node loss have been discussed as measures to estimate the damage to the networks. A graph was generated with characteristics similar to the IEEE300 bus system standard networks and the generated graph is then compared with the standard networks to show the effect of topology in determining the robustness of a power grid. Three mitigation strategies, Homogeneous Load Reduction, Targeted Load Reduction, and Use of Distributed Generation have been suggested.
