At present, the proportion of wind power in power generation systems is getting higher and higher, and the system frequency fluctuates greatly due to this influence. How to use the wind power to adjust the system frequency has become an urgent problem. This paper reviews various FM control strategies and the development direction of future research. From the perspective of influence, the influence of the proportion of wind power and the type of wind turbine on the system frequency is analyzed. From the perspective of strategy, the frequency modulation methods such as coordinated control, pitch angle control, rotor speed control, simulated inertia control, and droop control are summarized. The applicable scope, advantages and disadvantages of each method are analyzed and compared, and various coordinated control strategies including coordinated control among wind turbines, wind turbines and other types of units, and wind turbines and power electronics. Meanwhile, the effects, costs, and capacities of various types of energy storage participating in wind power frequency modulation have been studied. From the perspective of future research, the application of cost control and intelligent algorithms in frequency regulation of wind power is analyzed, and the frequency regulation capability of wind power in actual operation is evaluated.
